About

Dr. Frederick James “Jim” Garland was born and raised in northern West Virginia. He attended West Liberty University in West Liberty, West Virginia. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Science having a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology. He completed his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence, Ohio. He went on to complete his residency at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital in Alliance, Ohio. His residency included an additional focus of rearfoot and ankle surgery.



At the age of 17, Dr. Jim Garland enlisted with the West Virginia Army National Guard. Just a few short weeks after High School graduation he attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He graduated as a Combat Engineer. He was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom a few months after returning home. Following the deployment, he was retrained as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He assisted those in need due to National disasters. After eight years in the National Guard, he retrained again at Fort Lee, Virginia to become a Petroleum Supply Specialist and Refueler for Blackhawk Helicopters. Around this time, he started to serve on the Military Funeral Honors team and would remain for over five years. He would eventually become the regional team leader. In 2011, Dr. Garland was deployed again in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (KFOR). After 14 years and many commendations, Dr. Garland received an honorable discharge in 2015 from the United States Army.



Dr. Garland is the sole owner and operator of Beachside Podiatry located in Longs, South Carolina. He currently lives in Longs with his wife and two young children. He and his family have been visiting the Myrtle Beach area for over ten years and are very excited to finally be a permanent part of the community. In their spare time, he and his family enjoy all the things this beautiful climate and environment has to offer. They love exploring new adventures offered throughout the region.
