Dr. Gunter is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. He completed his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He then completed an internship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and a neurological surgery residency at the University of Tennessee College of Health Sciences in Memphis. He also achieved basic and Perfexion™ Gamma Knife® certification. He is currently an international faculty trainer for two cervical disc replacement devices and is involved in FDA clinical trials.
With more than 15 years of neurosurgical experience, Dr. Gunter specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, cervical disc replacement, instrumented spine surgery, and stereotactic radiosurgery of the brain and spine using Gamma Knife and and TruBeam® radiosurgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. Prior to joining the Lexington Medical Center Network of Care, he worked in private practice.
Dr. Gunter joins the board-certified surgeons and highly skilled clinicians at Lexington Brain and Spine Institute to provide comprehensive care for disorders of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is a fellow with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He also belongs to the Columbia Medical Society, the Lexington County Medical Society, the South Carolina Association of Neurological Surgeons, the South Carolina Medical Association and the Southern Neurosurgical Society.
