Dr. Leora Yarboro is an associate professor of surgery and chief of cardiac surgery at the University of Virginia. She is the surgical director of heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. She is certified by both the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Yarboro joined the UVA faculty in 2013. She has a diverse surgical practice, which includes treating heart valve disease, coronary artery disease and aortic aneurysms. She has expertise is in heart failure surgeries, including left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and heart transplantation. Dr. Yarboro performs minimally invasive surgeries and transcatheter valve replacements (TAVR).
Dr. Yarboro’s primary research interests are cardiac surgery clinical outcomes and surgical education. She is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, South Atlantic Cardiovascular Society and The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Outside of work, Dr. Yarboro enjoys fitness and spending time with her friends and family.
