-
James Tom, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine.
Over his medical career of more than 15 years, Dr. Tom has always been driven to provide treatments and surgical solutions that help patients get back to life after suffering sports-related injuries or other orthopaedic problems. He’s also shared his knowledge with undergraduate and medical students. He served as an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine and was an affiliated faculty member in Drexel’s School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems.
Dr. Tom has fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. This specialty training, as well as his former roles as assistant team physician for University of Virginia, Drexel University, and Philadelphia University athletics programs, have equipped him to provide expert care for elite athletes with a range of sports-related injuries.
At the same time, Dr. Tom is passionate about helping non-athletes of all ages with their orthopaedic issues, particularly those involving the shoulder, elbow and knee. These include shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, meniscus tears, cartilage damage, or ACL and multiple ligament knee injuries. Dr. Tom strives to provide individualized treatment plans that help each patient reach their goals for improved mobility and function, and ultimately return to a full and active lifestyle.
