Dr. Robert Marx is an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at HSS and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He is also Vice Chair of orthopedic surgery for faculty development at HSS. Dr. Marx has extensive experience in knee and shoulder surgery, with particular interest in ACL surgery, complex knee ligament reconstruction, and knee replacement. He has been voted as one of the “Best Doctors in New York” by New York Magazine for multiple years. Dr. Marx is the Head Consulting Orthopedic Surgeon for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and a Team Physician for the New York Rangers.
Dr. Marx received his MD from McGill University, his MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto, and his BSc in Biology from the Université de Montréal. He completed his post-graduate training in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Toronto and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Hospital for Special Surgery, focusing on knee and shoulder surgery.
Dr. Marx is Deputy Editor for Sports Medicine for the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. He has published over 275 peer reviewed scientific articles and five books, including three relating to ACL injury and surgery.
As an educator, Dr. Marx has been invited to lecture at many academic institutions around the world, including Harvard University and the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Marx serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) and is currently the society’s Newsletter Editor.
