Dr. Danny Chu is a professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He currently serves as the director of Cardiac Surgery at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and as a senior staff cardiac surgeon at the UPMC Heart & Vascular Institute. He earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and completed his general surgery residency at the University of California, San Diego, followed by an accredited residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine with world-renowned cardiovascular surgeons Dr. Michael E. DeBakey and Dr. Denton A. Cooley. Dr. Chu is board-certified in general and cardiothoracic surgery, and his clinical practice includes all aspects of complex adult cardiac surgery with special interest in trileaflet aortic valve reconstruction with autologous pericardium for the treatment of aortic valve disease (Ozaki procedure).
He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and serves on multiple editorial boards, including American Journal of Cardiology, JAMA Surgery, and World Journal of Surgery. Dr. Chu also serves as the Surgery Section Editor for the journal Medicine. He is a member of numerous surgical societies including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, American Surgical Association, Association of Veterans Affairs Surgeons, Society of University Surgeons, and Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Dr. Chu sees patients at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Mercy, and the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System.
