About

Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, was born in Kumasi, Ghana, on December 16, 1950. He emigrated to the United States in 1972 and completed undergraduate studies at Brooklyn College, where he received a Bachelor of Science (summa cum laude) in 1976. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1980. He was Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota (1987-1990); Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Southern California (1990-1994) and Assistant Clinical Professor, University of California College of Medicine, Irvine (1993-1994). His clinical appointments included the position of Associate Medical Director at the Southern California Complex Spine and Scoliosis Center in Whittier (1990-1994). Since July of 2006 , he has been Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Chief of the Scoliosis Service and Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at Hospital for SpecialSurgery and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Boachie-Adjei has published and lectured extensively on Spine Surgery, with special emphasis on surgery to correct spine deformity. He is an inventor who holds several patents for devices used in spine surgery. He has started a foundation, F.O.C.O.S. (Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine) to provide orthopedic medical care to underserved populations in West Africa and other third world nations. He was also elected President of the Scoliosis Research Society for the 2008-2009 year.
